WA State Open Semis

Well, could you believe it...Steve was the chair umpire for the Hadad vs. Shields match. I was only there for the first set but, after speaking with Bill looks like the match came down to a 3rd set tie breaker. I wish I was there. I also heard there was a controversial over rule call. "Point penalty for interrupting a good match."

I understand that the focus of the match is the MATCH itself. Like other sports there is always a few umps that feel they need to be apart of it. It is bad for the game, bad for the players and bad for the fans.. it is annoying to say the least.

Just an update as to the latest from Lincoln Park.
Saturday, someone known as Dusty was given permission to reserve 3 courts at 9am on Saturday. I wasn't there, but heard they were using the coursts for soccer.
Later that day I played doubles with left hander Dave, Pat and Gordon, split sets.
Today it was Roy Prior, Leroy Gordon and myself, we played two sets. As we were leaving we talked with Jeff. Kurt McGregor and his wife, were practicing, they are better known for squash I think.
Roy is going to have another tennis mixer at Magnolia on the 10th at 1pm It will be called the 50/50 mixer with a railroad theme.

Mark Arron has been working with an 11 year old, his name is Adam. Adam is looking for someone to play sets with.

As for chair umpire Steve, all I can say is he has a great lob and seems to know all the rules of tennis. We certainly can use him at Lincoln Park as a player or chair umpire. We don't have any chair and it sounds like he would bring some talent into the games. My thoughts, Dave

Also, I forgot to mention something else that's kind of a pain at Lincoln. There is some guy using the courts for inline skating. He's quite tall and uses headphones as he mindlessly wanders around a vacant court like a zombie. Sometimes he goes through the gates to the other side so other players can see him.
I hope he doesn't give other people ideas.

Do you mention to him and other folks who use the courts for other activities that, the courts are for tennis?

One way is to explain to him the damages that it causes to the courts. Perhaps he doesn't know. I would call the park dept for guidence in how to handle that sort of situation.
