Saturday

What a brite wonderful day, sunny and no marine clouds in site.

I will make that long commute to Upper Woodland today, damn the cracks, I'm there afternoon.

I was just thinking for once that, you know the opening of the new Lower Woodland courts just may coincide with the start of the US Open.. be kinda special.

Update:

Turns out it rained.. all over, though it has stopped and maybe some late tennis. Dean, me, Rob and Hernan were up at the uppper courts, Dean reported no one at Shoreline.

Hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Thursday pictures

Lincoln Park pictures on Thursday

Friday, myself and Pat will be there, we need two for doubles. The metro bus that goes there is the 54, please make a note of it. If a park n ride lot was somewhere near greenlake, then you could car pool to these distant parks. Too bad we didn't think to ask the park dept. for a van pool vehicle to use during the construction, our city gov't has lots of money for that.
Playing conditions at Lincoln Park were perfect, as usual, not enough players for doubles. I'm tired of being there early in the morning, I like the late afternoons much better. That's why I took these pictures. Dave

Court Coverage..

Ahh the work goes on.. our Sweat, blood and memories.. torn up with out remorse.

Thursday tennis

I think if everyone used this, this is a excellent tool to let everyone know where everyone is without having to call everyone which is whats happening. It just takes a couple of moments to look and leave a comment. Of course it will only work if we all participate. I understand that not every one can, or even like the idea, but its a central point for gathering and sharing, and its more than talk. A group of us have been playing 50th st. upper courts including Swanki, Lou M, P Stang Deanomite, myself, Mario, Norm and others. Courts are rough but its a central location and we are not so above to play in these courts. Joseph, and several others, have been up in 160th at Shoreline.

I looked over the destruction of our old courts and witnessed the carnage myself.. looks like souvenir blocks of courts are available for the taking. (borrow Rich's Truck) Sad but exciting. Will have pics tomorrow.

I have for awhile had the domain name LWTO.org and am considering putting up a dedicated web site for us. This site will be for the preservation, and love of the game for players around the Seattle area. If anyone has comments or ideas and/or would like to help, let me know, I'm open to anything.

So about 3:00pm Thursday, I'll be at the Upper courts cya there!

Tuesday Tennis

Seems we will be at the Upper courts today around 3:00 pm. From the calls I've gotten thats seems to be the time and census.

Action from the 26th at Shoreline.

Tueday 27th May Lincoln Park

This week myself, Gordon and Pat will be at Lincoln Park after 3:30pm, we need one more player for doubles. The regulars are gone by 1pm. Lots of empty courts. The players in the picture are doubles specialists, The man with dark glasses is Carman and the man in Red is Ed, he's the no. 1 doubles player at Lincoln Park, these guys arrive around 10am everyday.
We need more players!

Congrats to Lou Wick

Congratulations go out to our own Lou Wick for playing in the finals of the 2008 USTA Nationals men's 80,85,90 indoor tournament held in Portland this month. Although unseeded, Lou lost in 3 sets to the 3rd seeded player Jason Morton. Again, Congratulations and we will see you on the courts.

Mon, Memorial day tennis

Weather should be ok today, looks like everyone is playing at Shoreline. I guess we all skatter and eventually end up where the people meet. So I'm going over to Shoreline today, probably everyone will be else where.

FRENCH OPEN

Some good singles Sunday, Murry winning. I'd like to see him play well, he has a great game and is exciting to watch.
Any predictions?

Lincoln Park overview

Lincoln Park tennis courts are laid out exactly like those at Nathan Hale, also known as meadow brook. There are 6 courts with incandescent lights. The park dept. is supposed to change the name to Bob Booth tennis courts; that might never happen. To get there from lower woodland it takes about 20 minutes, if you use use hwy 99 and the viaduct. To get there from I-5 follow the signs to West Seattle and then signs that say to Vashon Ferry. The tennis courts are across the street from a gas station on Fauntleroy Way, just before you come to the north end of Lincoln Park. They are located on the opposite side of the street from main park (east dide of street).
There is a yahoo group for Lincoln Park, the URL is: http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lincoln_Park_Tennis/
At the present time the regular players go there in the mornings usually between 10am and 11am. There is also a special morning group that only plays at 9am on Tuesdays, Thursday and weekends. The person in charge of that group is tennis legend Coon.

The players usually only play doubles, and there are only about 12 players left. With the exception of Coon and myself Lincoln Park players don't play at other parks. Court no. 3 (N.E. Corner) has the best surface and is usually where people show up at. After 1pm it's usually dead. Lots of free courts, no players. Now you know more about Lincoln Park.

Sunday Tennis

Ahhh Sunday tennis. Relaxed, casual and fun. Probably be at the Upper courts as I was Saturday. Roman, Myself, Hernan, Kevin kelly, Sawanki were all there. Others were scattered with the wind. I guess it is hard to get all to agree where to meet and most probably telephone to get game.

Need some more contributors here, this could be pretty fun actually, be nice place to announce court parties and things like that.

Cya all on the courts!

Its Friday..

Weather: gonna be some showers later today..

Sooo I went up to the upper courts 5/22 and.. low and behold, no one there. I hung out, cleaned my racquet bag, listened to Mp3s and contemplated. Finally Dave and his son showed up and we played some doubles.. ok you can call it what you want but there was 4 players on the court and from Dave “those are REAL Players! On the other side of the court as he admonishes himself after a less than stellar play.

But the real story is WOW those courts are bad, simply bad. I think there are smoother landing strips than that of those courts. In fact I’m sure Pilot Dean will swear to it in his own ways. Another thing, see those cracks? I’m betting that those cracks are one of the few man made items that can actually be viewed from outer space with the naked eye. Fact is, we all wonder where the players have gone.. makes you wonder huh?

I don’t know if every one went to Shoreline today or not but as much as I think these upper courts pale in comparison, it is a much more convenient place for those coming from the south. It will be interesting to see just how many will make that trip up North, I know I’m not looking forward to it.

Just a side thought, would it be to much to get some of that ready crete and just plaster the cracks in the court? I don’t know maybe one of you who know more about that kind of stuff will be kind enough to guesstimate if it can be done and how much we would need.

WEB CAM

I was thinking and let me know what you all think, do you all think a web cam for the court would be a good idea? I was thinking that it might be a good deterent against vandalism. Skateboarders are now using the courts to skate around in while they wait for their turn in the skate rink. I just fear that the surface would get scratched and damaged. Also, it would be nice to have one to check court conditions as far as the weather is concerned. No need anymore to come out only to find big puddles and courts unplayable due to rain and yikes, snow. I think a Web cam would be a nice addition.

Its FRIDAY!! Wooohooo…OH wait a sec, its always Friday, nevermind..

OK guys, where ya playin today, maybe leave a place and time on the comments so people will know.
